A registered charitable organization, the Alliance Française is dedicated to promoting the use of French and the appreciation of cultures that share the French language in their common heritage. Established in 1902 with approximately 6,000 students and members, it operates as a cultural centre and language school with three centres in the Greater Toronto Area. Accredited by the Federal Government, it is the largest private French language school in Canada, with centres in Mississauga, Markham and North York.
It is part of an international network of 1,000 other independent Alliances throughout the world. The Alliance Française promotes communication between cultures through an exceptional environment: language classes, lectures, a photography gallery, as well as various cultural activities such as concerts, plays, and art exhibitions which together contribute to create an open cultural exchange.
Why are we different?French is our language, our business and our passion. We offer quality
teaching.
Our selected teaching staff possesses experience and special credentials for teaching French as a second language.
We use the most up-to-date pedagogical and technical resources vital to the teaching of modern languages: communicative approach based on immersion techniques for communication, authentic material (newspapers, magazines, audio and video-cassettes, multimedia tools).
We keep the number of students low in every class (5-12 students).
Our general French progamme for adults is divided into 14 levels ranging from an absolute beginner level to intermediate. Further courses are offered for advanced speakers. All levels are taught in accordance with our communicative method, which focuses on conversational French with emphasis on active student participation. We have specific programmes leading to certificates and diplomas from the CIEP of Paris, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Paris, France.
We have a wide range of classes for children (from 1 year old) and teenagers.
Our courses are offered with flexible schedules through group classes, private tutoring or corporate contracts for companies.
All applicants are given a placement interview free of charge to ensure
that all students are placed in the appropriate level. Students in our
group classes are offered a fee reduction for subsequent sessions.
Our tuition fees are tax-deductible for adults.
The use of the lending library (magazines, books, videos, CD-ROMs) and
the computer lab are available at no extra cost.
We can advise you about other French immersion courses offered in Québec and in France. We are authorized to accept registrations directly for specific off-shore programmes such as those offered in Montpellier (IMEF), and at the Alliance Française in Paris.
Students are invited to participate in our cultural events programme such as art premieres, lectures, concerts, plays and more. Everyone is fully encouraged to enjoy the camaraderie of meeting our francophone members.
After 100 years in Toronto, the Alliance Française has a wealth of experience. Come and share it with us.
